Description

Asbestos

Worker

The worker course is intended to familiarize abatement workers with asbestos, its health effects, regulations, safety procedures, and proper techniques for asbestos abatement.

Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor

The contractor/supervisor course includes the topics covered in the asbestos worker course, plus information for abatement project supervisors including contractor specifications, insurance requirements, legal considerations, record keeping, and supervisory techniques.

Building Inspector

The building inspector course is for individuals who collect bulk samples of suspect materials, and further identify, survey, and report on asbestos containing materials in or on a building or structure.

Management Planner

The management planner course is for those who use information collected by building inspectors to assess the condition of asbestos containing materials in buildings, determine appropriate response actions, develop cost estimates, and devise schedules for implementing response actions.


The asbestos building inspector course is a prerequisite for the management planner course.

Project Designer

The project designer course is for individuals who plan, design, and develop procedures and specifications for asbestos abatement projects.


Although the EPA does not require any prerequisites for the the project designer course, enrollees should consider attending the contractor/supervisor and building inspector courses prior to attending the project designer course.

Annual refresher courses, which are required to maintain certification, review topics introduced in the initial training course as well as regulatory updates, safety procedures, and discussions on state-of-the art techniques.
